Join the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office for the 5th Annual World Heritage Festival, September 8-13, 2020! The World Heritage Festival is an annual collaborative event to celebrate and promote the San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and raise funds to preserve, promote, and connect.

For the safety and well-being of the community during the current pandemic, many World Heritage Festival events will transition to virtual events according to current local and state guidelines based on CDC recommendations. This year's Tour de las Misiones celebrates Mission San Jose’s 300th year! The event is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to visit and learn about the historic San Antonio Missions. This Virtual Bike Ride, Walk and Run can be completed by registered participants using the designated routes or by using their own routes to tour the Missions.  Registered participants may begin their bike ride, walk, or run on September 8, 2020 and must complete them by September 13, 2020.  

Register before September 3, 2020 to be guaranteed to receive a commemorative bib, finisher’s medal, T-shirt, 2020 World Heritage Festival Fiesta medal, and keepsake passport to use while exploring the Missions.

EXHIBIT OPENING - “BRIDGING CULTURES: PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION OF THE CLASSICAL GARDENS IN SUZHOU, CHINA”

Mission San Jose, 6701 San José Drive, San Antonio, Texas, 78214

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Friendship City relationship between San Antonio and Suzhou, China, the two cities partner to present this outdoor photo exhibition on the grounds of Mission San Jose honoring the flourishing connections enjoyed by the citizens of two cities. The Classical Gardens in Suzhou are, like the San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The exhibit will remain on display through fall 2020.

PLENARY SESSION: BEST PRACTICES IN STONE BUILDING PRESERVATION MANAGEMENT



The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park present a public lecture to kick-off the technical symposium on best practices in stone building preservation. This is the culmination of three previous preservation workshops from 2016-2018.  Featured speakers are Brian Michael Lione, US-ICOMOS and Smithsonian Institute, Frank Sanchis, World Monuments Fund, and Dr. Tamra Walter, Texas Tech University.

VIRTUAL SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS TRIVIA NIGHT



Learn more about the San Antonio Missions and their rich and vibrant history with an evening of virtual trivia. The National Parks Conservation Association and program partners will lead this this fun and interactive evening event.  Show your knowledge of the parks and challenge your friends and family!

Guests can enjoy a virtual performance of music under the evening summer sky to celebrate San Antonio's local heritage and history.

EL CAMINO DE SAN ANTONIO: CARING FOR CREATION MASS AND PROCESSION

Mission Espada, 10040 Espada Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78214

Join Archbishop Gustavo Siller, MSpS, in a celebration of the Season of Creation with a Mariachi Mass at Mission Espada at 8:00 a.m. At 9:00 a.m., join a walk in support of God's creation from Mission Espada to Mission San Juan along the beautiful San Antonio river trail. The walk will culminate in the Archbishop's special blessing at Mission San Juan. Bring your water bottles and comfortable shoes.
